WORCESTER City players will have to wait until next week to find out whether they have a future at the club.

Manager Carl Heeley is planning to meet with his squad as he begins preparations for the club’s move to Kidderminster Harriers following 108 years in the city.

But with finances away from St George’s Lane set to be tight next term, there could be some tough calls ahead when it comes to retaining players and recruiting new ones.

Talks have been left until next week to allow for today’s deadline of the £100 season ticket offer to expire, which will allow the board to set a playing budget.

Heeley is keen to get the ball rolling for the 2013-14 campaign and believes he has the nucleus of good side to take to Aggborough.

Worcester’s 1-0 final-day defeat to champions Chester saw them finish the season 15th in the table but they were challenging for the play-offs prior to a nine-game losing streak in February and March.

The City boss said: “We’ll talk to the players over the next week or so, have a break and then start planning pre-season.

“I stick with my belief that it’s a better squad of players than where we finished in the table. They’re young lads and they’ll learn from the experience, certainly in that losing run, and that will stand them in good stead.”

With the ticket scheme intrinsically linked to funding the team in its exile, the directors have once again issued a stark warning to fans.

Supporters have been told the club risks not being able to maintain its Blue Square Bet North status without their backing.

A statement said: “Sales of the £100 season ticket are increasing by the hour but we are nowhere near the required figure to be in a position to compete next season.

“If you are interested in saving your club then you need to do something about it before it is too late.

“Don’t leave it to others and don’t think that the club will somehow pull through without support. If we do not get to the required amount then an announcement will be made next week.”
