PERSHORE Town aim to win their first piece of silverware for 17 years against Alvechurch in tonight’s Worcestershire Football Association Senior Urn final.
The King George V Playing Fields team go into the match at Kidderminster Harriers’ Aggborough ground (7.45pm) not having won a trophy since winning the same competition in 1996.
Current manager Gary Aldington was part of the team that defeated Stourport Swifts back then and is keen to guide his side to success at Aggborough.
Pershore booked their place in the final with a 4-3 victory on penalties against Bromsgrove Sporting in the semi-finals, having beaten Dudley Sports 1-0 in the last eight.
Aldington said: “It would be great to win the Urn, we haven’t been in a final for a long time.
“We have built a new squad which is starting to take shape.
“We have done well since Christmas so we can aim for a top 10 place in the league next year.”
The final will be the second of two games in 72 hours for Pershore following a 1-1 draw at neighbours Littleton in the Athium Midland Combination Premier Division on Wednesday.
Aldington, whose side are guaranteed to finish 13th in the table, admits he will shuffle his pack to give Town the best chance of beating mid-table Midland Alliance outfit Alvechurch.
He added: “We wanted to fulfil the fixture against Littleton because it was a local derby so some will play both games. If had playing Littleton but not this final, we could have put our strongest side out. I have to utilise the squad.”
Pershore lost 5-1 at Southam last Saturday, having been pipped 2-1 at home by title-favourites Walsall Wood two days before despite missing several players through injury and unavailability.
But they thrashed Pilkington 4-0 the weekend before and should be closer to full-strength for the final.
Keeper Matt Davis (groin) and midfielder Dane Aldington (hamstring) are the only injury doubts for the Pershre chief.
The club will run a coach to Aggborough at 5pm and anyone interested should call 01396-556902 for further details.
