SHELSLEY Walsh Hill Climb, the world’s oldest motor sport venue, hosts its first speed event of the year entitled ‘Speed into Spring’ this weekend.

New Worcester resident Trevor Willis, who is the current British Hill Climb champion, will be competing in his brand new OMS 28 racing car.

The Midland Automobile Club is hosting rounds of the Midland Hill Climb Championship, attracting top drivers and their cars from across the country, ranging from road-legal saloon and sports cars to the latest high-tech single seater racing cars fitted with F1 style engines.

Mike Turpin of Hereford, the 2012 Midland champion, will be defending his title in his supercharged Vauxhall VX220.

Former Midland champion and current national top-10 runner Will Hall will be in action in his unlimited capacity Force racing car which has undergone many modifications over the winter months and should go well.

With a full entry list now finalised, registered drivers will also be competing in the BMTR ‘Top 10 Challenge’, which features points for the top 10 places scored in a run-off by the fastest 12 cars at the end of both the morning and afternoon sessions on the Sunday.

Invited clubs also include the Westfield Speed Series, the HSA Speed Championship and the Paul Matty Sports Cars Lotus Championship, who are all competing over the weekend.

To add even more variety to the occasion, the Morris Register will have a large presence to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Morris, with dedicated display areas and a parade of iconic vehicles driving up the hill on Sunday.

Worcester area entrants include Graham Godfrey in an Audi TT, Mike Gale in a Westfield, Joy Hoyle in a Caterham, Chris Chance in an Audi, Kim Johnson in a Mallock, Gavin McLaren in a Nutsan Muffin and Derek Sweeney in an OMS.

Lindsay Summers in a Force PT, Duncan Andrews in a Van Diemen, Darren Gumbley in a Force PT, Clive Austin in an OMS 2000M, June Matty in a Lotus, Mark Goodyear in an OMS Hornet, Simon Durling in a Brabham BT18 and Hugh Whitcomb in a Mini Cooper also compete.

The action starts at 9.15am on Saturday and Sunday with individual mixed practice runs on Saturday and timed competition runs, with full commentary, in programme order on Sunday.
