MICHAEL Gash says he would have no qualms about stepping up to the plate if Kidderminster Harriers need a penalty shoot-out to reach Wembley.
The striker fired Harriers level from 12 yards in last Tuesday’s Blue Square Bet Premier play-off semi-final first leg against Wrexham, which the Dragons eventually won 2-1.
It means Steve Burr’s side have to win tomorrow’s second-leg sell-out at Aggborough (1.30pm) to keep alive their hopes of promotion to the Football League.
However, they need a two-goal victory margin or face the possibility of extra-time and penalties to set up a Wembley final against either Newport County or Grimsby Town a week tomorrow.
Gash, who has scored seven goals for Harriers since joining on loan from Cambridge United, said: “It’s going to be close and it could go down to extra-time or even penalties but if the manager wants me to take one that’s no problem.
“He told me on Tuesday evening I would take any penalties and I was fine with that. I also took Cambridge’s penalties as well.”
The 26-year-old added: “The semi-final is not over by a long way. It’s only half-time and I would back us to score at home. We’ve been on a fantastic run to make the play-offs and we’ll be doing everything we can to reach Wembley.”
Gash’s successful spot-kick against the Dragons ended a rotten run of penalty fortune for Harriers following misses from Lee Vaughan, Kyle Storer and Anthony Malbon this season.
