WORCESTER City are out to mark their final game at St George’s Lane with victory over Blue Square Bet North champions Chester.

That is the aim for Carl Heeley’s side when they play at the 108-year-old ground one last time tomorrow (3pm) before it is demolished for housing.

All roads have led to the historic fixture since it was announced last July and a sell-out 4,000 capacity crowd is expected. No tickets will be available at the gate.

Although Chester have already wrapped up the title and City are not, as was hoped, involved in the play-off mix, it is still set to be an occasion to remember.

With the pressure off when it comes to the result, City are determined for one final flourish at the Lane to bag their third straight home win.

Manager Heeley said: “Players want to play against the best teams and in front of the biggest crowds.

“We are up against the best team in the division by a country mile and it will be the largest crowd the league will have seen this season.

“That’s something the team should thrive on. It’s our last ever game at the Lane but I think players will forget that during the 90 minutes — reality will set in after the game and we don’t know how people will react.

“It’s a game of football and we want to finish the season off on a high for the ground and ourselves.

“We want to beat the champions but we know it’s going to be incredibly tough.”

Chester have swept all before them in the league this season, securing a second successive promotion in the process.

Neil Young’s side were 4-2 winners at the Deva Stadium in December but Heeley feels his players gave a good account of themselves that day.

He added: “For an hour there was little to choose between the teams and when we equalised we had a 10-minute spell when we could have got something out of the game.

“But they had a 20-minute blitz when they blew us away. That spell was very powerful and I am sure they have done that to other teams this season.

“I want to extend my congratulations to Neil and the Chester players and supporters because they are worthy champions. I wish them the best of luck in the Premier.”

Midfielder Matt Breeze, who scored the third goal in Worcester’s 3-1 victory over Hinckley United two weeks ago, could be involved following a groin injury.
