THERE was heartbreak for Worcester League club Heenans in the Worcestershire FA Sunday Junior Cup final when they lost a penalty shoot-out against Ocean Designs Rangers of the Kidderminster League after being 3-0 up with 10 minutes to go of normal time.
Designs spurned three good first-half chances and Heenans took the lead on the stroke of half-time through Anthony Smith.
Immediately after the interval, Richard Smith increased their lead with a stunning 20-yard drive.
Heenans then had to defend resolutely with Mike Collins outstanding at centre-half and goalkeeper Andy Baker making three brilliant saves.
When Rich Smith made in 3-0 after 70 minutes the game looked over.
However, Heenans were reduced to 10 men when Charlie Martin was given his marching orders in an incident which also saw one of the Designs substitutes being sent off.
Heenans then fell apart and conceded three goals in the last 10 minutes to Danny Flowers, Collins (own goal) and a Gary Price header deep into injury time.
George Martin again put Heenans ahead in extra-time but another own goal, this time from Martin Newman, made it 4-4 and the match went to penalties which Ocean Designs won 3-1 to complete an unexpected victory.
