BACK-to-back league wins for the first time since August are the aim for Worcester City when they travel to Bishop’s Stortford tonight.
Last Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Hinckley United made it two wins in a row at St George’s Lane, something City last achieved in September.
With only three games of the season to go, manager Carl Heeley will be keen for his team, 15th in Blue Square Bet North, to finish on a high.
He said: “Even when we were on a terrible run, the boys were buzzing and their morale was good — when you’ve got that you’ve got half a chance.
“We had some bad performances in that run but we also had some horrendous luck and things went against us with deflected goals and not having the rub of the green.
“That’s what happens but you have to keep playing through it and keep believing in yourselves but it’s always nice to go anywhere on the back of a win.”
Captain Stuart Whitehead and Shabir Khan (both groin) could also be in the frame for the trip to Hertfordshire, which was originally postponed in January, as Worcester’s injury crisis begins to ease.
Jacob Rowe played against Hinckley despite nearly two months out with a knee problem and fellow centre-half Lee Ayres was on the bench a week after pulling up with an Achilles injury at Workington.
Heeley explained: “The temptation was to involve Stuart against Hinckley but Lee and Jacob were OK so we thought we’d give him the extra days.
“We’ve got Bishop’s Stortford, then Brackley and Chester so we’ll have to be cautious how we approach these games but it’s looking a bit brighter.
“We think Shab has a persistent groin problem. It won’t stop him featuring but it will stop him playing games quickly as it might take a week to 10 days to settle down.
“We’ve got to manage that situation and be cautious with him but hopefully he will be back in contention for tonight but, if not, Saturday.”
Bishop’s Stortford, who lost 2-0 in the first game at the Lane this season, are two places below Worcester with a game in hand.
