CARL Heeley was full of praise for his Worcester City youngsters as they despatched Hinckley United 3-1 at St George’s Lane.
Striker Ethan Moore grabbed his first goal for the club, while former youth team player Josh Smith made his debut at right-back.
“We’ve always wanted to blood the youngsters but you’ve got to pick the time to do it,” the City boss said.
“With the situation as it is, we’re seeing the season out and were playing a team that’s been relegated for a number of weeks, so we felt it was the opportunity to give some of the lads a run.
“I think Ethan’s a good prospect, his work-rate and movement is good but when you’ve stepped up so many divisions you need to score your first goal just to give you that belief that you can cut it at the higher level.
“Everybody in the camp is pleased to see him score and it was a very composed finish.”
He continued: “Josh has been on loan at Bridgnorth to get some experience and learn men’s football but the aim was to always bring him back at the right time and blood him before the end of the campaign.
“I thought he had a composed game. His distribution and defending was good and their winger didn’t get the better of him.”
Of the game, Heeley said: “We were on a bit of a hiding nothing playing a team who’ve had a torrid season. Everybody expected us to beat them but you’ve got to beat them, you can’t just turn up.
“Mike Symons got the second goal and in all honesty it could have been a lot more.”
