IF Worcester Wolves defeat Surrey Heat in the British Basketball League play-offs this weekend, they hope to stage the semi-final at the new Worcester Arena.
Following several delays because of building work, the University of Worcester are hoping to collect the keys to the £15million venue in the next few days.
Should Wolves progress to the last four, it would leave just over a week to prepare the Hylton Road complex for the curtain-raiser, which would likely take place on Saturday, April 20.
It would mean that this Saturday’s quarter-final first leg against Surrey (7pm) would be the last game at the team’s current home of 13 years. The second leg is in Guildford on Sunday (3pm).
Mick Donovan, co-founder of the Wolves, said: “If we go through there is a possibility that we could host the semi-final in the arena. That decision will coincide with the outcome of the play-off against Surrey.
“We have enjoyed some fantastic nights of basketball in the University Sports Centre and, emphatically, the Wolves fans have made it a special place to play and have never let the team down.
“This may well be the last game for the Wolves in the only home we have known.”
