CHARLIE Reece says he has been impressed with the resilience shown by his Worcester City colleagues during their record-equalling losing streak.
The midfielder believes the way everyone connected with the club rallied in the face of nine straight league defeats should be applauded.
Easter Monday’s 3-2 victory over Oxford City ended the sequence and put a smile back on the faces of all concerned at St George’s Lane.
Reece, whose side make the long trek to Workington in Blue Square Bet North today (3pm), said: “It felt great to get the win.
“It doesn’t matter whether you’ve played in the Football League or whatever level or how old you are, confidence is such an important thing. It really is.
“When you’ve had a bad run like we had, you have to accept that confidence isn’t as high as it was at the start of the season when we were beating a lot of teams.
“Hopefully, our confidence will be right up there again.
“Whether it’s the directors, staff, players or fans, I have been really impressed with how everyone’s stuck together, as we have done all season.
“It has been a bad run and hopefully if we can apply ourselves like we did on Monday we can put some more wins together.”
Until Mike Symons struck after four minutes against Oxford, City had also gone more than 10-and-a-half hours without a goal.
But Reece feels the statistic doesn’t tell the whole story after chances went begging against Altrincham and Corby Town last Saturday.
“I thought we deserved to score goals in some of the games we’ve lost,” the former Bristol Rovers player added.
“The ability and application has never been in doubt. It was just a bit of a lack of belief and bad luck.”
