WITH a coveted play-off spot assured, Kidderminster Harriers can devote their efforts to pushing title-rivals Mansfield Town all the way.
Monday’s 2-1 victory at Luton Town guaranteed Steve Burr’s side a top-five finish in the Blue Square Bet Premier for the first time since they were relegated from the Football League in 2005.
Although the Stags are in the box seat for the title with two games in hand following last night’s trip to Wrexham, Harriers can keep up the heat by winning their final three games.
They host Lincoln City at Aggborough tomorrow (3pm) looking for a victory which, if not enough for automatic promotion, could prove pivotal in ensuring they are at home in the play-off semi-finals second leg.
The Imps have different reasons for needing the points, given they are not yet safe from relegation, and Harriers are wary of that fact.
But Kidderminster are buoyed by being unbeaten in seven fixtures, including six victories, and manager Burr has not given up on pipping Mansfield to the crown.
He said: “We’ve managed to get ourselves a play-off spot after two or three years.
“We still haven’t given up on the chance of winning the title but you’ve got to give Mansfield credit for the run they’ve been on.”
Anthony Malbon, with 17 goals to his name this term, is looking for his fifth in as many games as he bids to chase down on-loan strike partner Michael Gash, the division’s leading marksman with 19.
