MEMBERS of Worcester Lawn Tennis Club swapped Easter Eggs for tennis balls at their April Fools’ Day, ‘All Fools’ club tournament.
The competition took place at Northwick Close and saw the courts full of players, many in Easter bonnets, taking an opportunity to run off the weekend chocolate and sneak in some pranks, drop shots and aces.
With bank holiday sunshine characteristically absent, a cold wind, open bar and the promise of a tennis tea, play began. A mixed ‘fantasy four’ system meant the players got to play with most of the other contenders — the winner being the player with the highest individual score.
Four male players, John Hayden, Brian Fieldhouse, Martin Dayus and Chris Langford, made it to the finals and competed in a fast paced, hotly-contested match. Langford got the highest individual score and won.
He said: “The Bank Holiday tournaments are always fantastic; whatever the weather there’s a brilliant turnout, we play great tennis and have a real laugh and it’s nice to win.”
