MANAGER Carl Heeley talked of a huge sense of relief as Worcester City finally ended their barren run with victory over Oxford City.

Goals from Mike Symons, Kieron Morris and Shabir Khan secured a 3-2 success at St George’s Lane to move them up to 13th in Blue Square Bet North.

It was their first victory in 10 attempts and the first time they had scored a goal in 639 minutes.

Heeley said: “It was a good performance, it was more like what we’re used to because it’s been horrible and frustrating.

“We’ve done a lot of soul-searching and it’s been a long time coming but I’m relieved more than anything that we’ve finally got a foothold back in our season.”

He added: “It was a hell of a relief when I saw Symmo stick the ball in the net.

“I was expecting a mole to come up and knock it off the line with our luck of late but it was a relief to see it go in the net and it’s lifted a huge wirhgt off everybody’s shoulders.

“I said that when we finally score I would do a somersault on the pitch so I had to keep true to my word, although I didn’t quite make it over, I landed on my back.”

Keeper Matt Sargeant produced two superb saves to keep the visitors at bay, including one in second-half stoppage-time, but City held out.

“It was going to be anxious at the end because it the win has been so long coming but now we can put it to bed, relax and enjoy the rest of the season,” the Worcester boss said.
