WARRIORS have now lost seven of their last eight Aviva Premiership outings but Richard Hill shrugged off his side’s poor form in favour of looking to the future.
Worcester conceded a 77th-minute try to hand Exeter a 24-18 victory at Sixways which meant the 29-23 win over Wasps remains Hill’s only success of 2013.
His players put in a much-improved performance against the Chiefs but the match ended in an all-too-familiar outcome.
“We’re in a limbo situation in the league where there is nothing to play for in terms of the top six,” admitted the Warriors head coach.
“It can be hard with three games to go for our players to maybe have the same motivation as Exeter who are still going for top six. I was delighted that we matched their grit and determination.”
Hill called on his players to reproduce the same level of intensity for the final three league games — at Saracens and London Welsh and at home to reigning champions Harlequins.
He added: “We want to have the same attitude and play with the same intent. We want to try and win at least one of the last three, ideally all three.
“In the last five minutes against Exeter, we let it go but next season we will get it right.
“We must try and develop our game and also get an away victory. We have two matches to get that monkey off our back.”
Despite the depressing nature of the defeat, the Warriors pack’s performance offered a crumb of comfort to the Sixways coaching team.
“I was very pleased for Nigel Redman and the forwards,” added Hill.
“They had a bit of stick after the loss at London Irish but to score one try from a driving maul directly and another indirectly from one was pleasing.
“The forwards were hurt by the defeat at Irish and have responded in the right way.”
