MIDFIELDER Craig Jones says he is determined to win a professional contract with Hereford United next season.

The 23-year-old has left Westfields, where he scored 13 goals this season, for a second stint with the Bulls, having previously been released from Edgar Street three years ago.

Manager Martin Foyle has been impressed with his efforts for the Midland Alliance club and has given Jones the chance to prove himself in non-league’s top-flight.

Jones appeared as a late substitute in last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Hyde but did not get off the bench for Tuesday’s 1-0 victory over Dartford.

He will be hoping that changes for today’s trip to Woking (3pm) as he bids to stake his claim for a deal with the club.

“I’m definitely playing for a contract and, after three years away, I’d love to stay here now and maybe push on and get a lot more games than I did the last time I was here,” said Jones. “I want to play at as high a level as I can.

“Obviously, the fans are getting on the players’ backs and it’s nice to come on as a sub and hear the fans get behind me. It would be brilliant for me to start some games.”

The former Worcester City trialist added: “I’m sad to leave Westfields as they’ve been great to me.”
