THERE are seven matches left for Worcester City this season and manager Carl Heeley believes they provide good opportunities for much-needed points.

City have endured a torrid time after slipping to 14th in Blue Square Bet North off the back of eight straight defeats.

However, Heeley feels there are plenty of reasons for fans to be optimistic as the season approaches its climax.

Four of Worcester’s remaining fixtures, starting at relegation-threatened Corby Town tomorrow (3pm), are against teams below them in the table while Workington are only a point above.

Having faced four of the top seven during their run of six games without a goal, City hope the tide can start to turn.

Heeley said: “There are positive signs. We trained on Tuesday and the lads were really bubbly and buzzing around but it’s about transferring that into the game and taking an opportunity when it comes around.

“A goal would lift a huge weight off our shoulders.

“We have come out of a group of fixtures that would have been tough if we were flying but when you’re on a poor run they are daunting.

“In the remaining seven fixtures there are matches we have to be looking to pick up points from, starting this weekend.

“We have to try and get the next point on the board.”

Keiron Morris, on loan from League One play-off hopefuls Walsall until the end of the season, could earn his second start for City following the departure of Greg Mills to Boston United.

Fellow new recruit, striker Ethan Moore, also hopes to keep his place following promising displays against Gainsborough Trinity and in last Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Altrincham.

However, Ellis Deeney and Jacob Rowe are out of the trip to Steel Park and captain Stuart Whitehead remains doubtful.

Left-back Deeney is struggling after damaging his ankle at Vauxhall Motors earlier this month and centre-half Rowe is still to return to training following an injection for tendonitis in his knee.

Skipper Whitehead missed the Altrincham match with a groin problem and is not certain to be involved at Corby.

Keeper Glyn Thompson is another concern after sitting out last weekend’s match because of a thigh injury.

Corby are flirting with the bottom three but Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at Vauxhall Motors steadied the ship following back-to-back losses against Harrogate Town (2-0) and Solihull Moors (3-2).
