WORCESTER City manager Carl Heeley says his players have to take their chances in front of goal if they are going to drag themselves out of their current slump.

Defeat at Altrincham on Saturday was the eighth in a row for the St George’s Lane club and also their sixth on the spin without a goal.

There were times at Moss Lane when it looked as though that drought was finally going to end but Shabir Khan was unable to convert after Ethan Moore’s shot had been saved by Stuart Coburn in the first-half.

Heeley said: “We need a break. When we get an opportunity like the one for Shab we have got to put it in to give us something to defend.

“Losing has become a habit, as has conceding and not scoring. Something has got to give, we have to break that sequence otherwise it’s going to be a long last seven games of the season.

“It’s easy to say our strikers aren’t scoring but the team isn’t scoring or keeping clean sheets. It’s not all about strikers, if we get a set-piece a centre-half or midfielder can go and score.

“If you look at all the players in all areas, we have to do better as individuals. When you are trying to play without confidence and belief and those bad habits creep in it’s tough to turn around."

He continued: “I believe for the vast majority of this season until the last eight games we were up there competing with Altrincham for a play-off position.

“We’ve had a horrendous run, results-wise it's not good enough. I believe when we click we can get a result.”
