BLUE Square Bet Premier leaders Kidderminster Harriers head to Southport tomorrow (1pm) bidding to take another step towards promotion.

Steve Burr’s side moved to the top for the first time in 13 years, but only on goal difference from Mansfield Town, after Tuesday’s 2-1 win at Newport County.

With seven games left and Harriers 13 points away from sixth-placed Forest Green Rovers, they have gone a long way to ensuring at least a play-off place.

Automatic promotion is now firmly in their sights and Kidderminster will be out for another three points at Haig Avenue in a match live on Premier Sports.

Keeper Danny Lewis, Harriers’ hero at Newport, said: “All you can do is take it a game at a time. We are top and want to enjoy it but we realise there’s still a long way to go and a lot of hard work to come.

“While we’re there, we can dream. Someone’s got to win the league, why can’t it be us?”

Harriers have won their last three matches but the Newport success, secured by Chey Dunkley’s injury-time strike, was highly significant.

Striker Anthony Malbon faced the Exiles, despite concerns over an ankle injury, and will be keen to continue his partnership with Michael Gash, who netted for the fourth time in three games.

Southport, seeking a first win in three matches, may hand a debut to keeper Ben Smith who joined after Tony McMillan’s red card in Tuesday’s 2-1 loss at Tamworth.
