MANAGER Paul West asked his Evesham United players to refund the price of their supporters’ tickets after a 7-1 Sholing shambles.

Around 20 Robins fans travelled to Southampton in mid-week only to see the Spiers and Hartwell Jubilee Stadium side slump to their heaviest defeat of the season.

West described the performance as “totally unacceptable” and demanded a response when they host Cinderford in Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West tomorrow (3pm).

He said: “I told the players to have a whip-round to buy the fans a drink or reimburse their entrance money.

“It was totally unacceptable and I didn’t see it coming. There’s losing football matches and then there’s the manner in which you lose them. I have never been involved in a game like that as a player or manager.

“Sholing were outstanding in the last third and that’s as good as I have seen.

“We didn’t get to grips with it and it could have been a lot more than seven.

“Sometimes you have to accept you will be second best on the night but I can’t accept players throwing the towel in.

“I have told them how disappointed I am. We have to dust ourselves down and I am looking for a big response.”

Centre-half Jamal Clarke could return, while midfielder James Blake completes a three-game ban.
