FANS have thrown their support behind manager Carl Heeley following Worcester City’s run of seven straight defeats.
The St George’s Lane club are enduring their worst sequence of results for nearly 30 years and have not scored in their last five games.
Although the team, who travel to face Altrincham on Saturday (3pm), were play-off contenders earlier in the season, it has now led to questions about the manager’s future.
Tomorrow night’s monthly board meeting will discuss the situation and its potential impact on the club’s plan to sell 1,500 £100 season tickets for next term at Kidderminster Harriers.
But the majority of fans who contacted us are backing the boss, who took over from Richard Dryden three years ago having previously played more than 500 times for the club.
Adecrean said: “We have short memories. We haven’t had a sniff of success in the league for decades — and Carl Heeley has given us a fleeting chance of that in the past two seasons. The club should give him its wholehearted support.”
WS1991 added: “He shouldn’t be sacked for arguably his first proper bad run of games. OK, so we are out of the play-off chase now, but we were well and truly in that race until about a month ago and that would’ve been unheard of as little as two seasons ago.”
Charlie the cat said: “When Carl Heeley took over we were in a worse position than we are today, he got the team playing with pride and they looked and played as if they were proud to wear the shirt. Results home and away showed that.”
Heeley is working under tight financial restraints and those resources are set to reduce further when the club leaves the Lane after 108 years in June and moves to Aggborough.
Another poster, Hillbilly1, said: “The board must stand by the management team and work with them to overcome this blip.
“This is the same management team who got the same players into the play-off places earlier in the year and also the same board that has had to restrict the management’s chances of success with such a small playing budget.”
Not all comments were positive, however, and on the club’s Facebook site Nick Bawden added: “The club is being brought to its knees at the moment, with everything going on, just think it’s time for a change and fresh ideas for when we leave the Lane.”
Heeley declined to comment.
