FIVE games in 11 days is a busy schedule for Worcester Wolves and also a very important one.
With the way the British League is panning out, we could still finish anywhere from third to sixth and we want to finish as high as we possibly can.
The forthcoming games against Sheffield Sharks tomorrow, Manchester Giants on Saturday, Newcastle Eagles next Tuesday, Plymouth Raiders on Good Friday and Glasgow Rocks on Easter Sunday will go a long way to deciding how high.
Although where we finish makes little difference in terms of the play-offs, it has a bearing on next season because the higher seeded sides get byes in the first round of cup competitions.
Heading into this group of games, we’ve just got to try and maintain what we’ve been doing following eight successive league victories.
I think we’re in pretty good condition and shape, it’s a matter of managing players through these games. Some might not get as much court time as if we just had two games in a couple of weeks so I’m going to have to manage that situation very carefully.
But a lot of it is down to the players and making sure that they eat correctly and hydrate properly and do the things that they’re supposed to do.
We’ve taken them through all that and used the resources that are available to us at the University of Worcester — all the sports psychologists and nutritionists.
The players have had all that information so a lot of the onus goes back on them to actually make sure that they’re doing the right things to be in peak condition to play the games.
We go out to win every game, regardless of who we’re playing, and that’s a great habit and attitude to have. We’re not that good a team where we can pick and choose who we want to beat so we want to play as hard as we can.
Winning is a habit and we want to keep our good vein of form. Having not played since the 121-90 triumph at Cheshire Phoenix on March 10, you could say the break didn’t come at a great time because we have been playing well.
Yet, having said that, most of the guys, including Stan Ocitti and Arnas Kazlauskas, were involved at the British Universities and Colleges Sport Championships so they haven’t had that rest. Hopefully those that did can come in and play a bit more than the others.
Training has been going well but the university sports hall is out of action this week because of the UCAS fair so we’ve had to look at other facilities.
Normally the schools in the community are fantastic so we can get some court time to have a walk through some of our plays and do some shooting.
