MANAGER Carl Heeley says rallying his Worcester City team will be a tough task following their latest defeat.

Last Saturday’s 3-0 loss against Boston United was their sixth in a row and dropped them to 13th in Blue Square Bet North.

Heeley said: “It’s tough at the moment, I’m not going to lie and say that it’s a bed of roses. We’ve got a totally deflated changing room, we’ve no belief or confidence and it’s tough to lift people when that happens.

“We are not putting any pressure on them, I don’t think our fans are either but it just feels like the world’s against us and it’s going to be tough to turn round.”

He continued: “I’m concerned by the number of goals we’ve conceded and I’m also concerned that we don’t look like scoring.

“It is down to confidence, it’s not anything else. We’re a team in freefall at the moment and we just need a spark or a bit of luck to give us an ounce of belief back.

“It’s the same squad of players that at times were doing very well early in the season and we looked like a really good side, certainly at home.

“We’re swapping it around constantly, we’re looking at formations but it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find words to sum up what’s happened to us.

“At the moment I’m questioning where the next point is coming from and I will certainly be glad to see the back of 41 points. There’s only one way out of it, we’ve just got to stick together and keep going.”

The Worcester boss added: “We have raised the bar. If you look from where we were in Conference South, we’ve consistently got better and now for the first time we’ve hit a brick wall. Did we over achieve last season or earlier this season? I don’t think so because there’s good players there. It’s tough to put your finger on it.”

City, who have now not scored for four games, fell behind to Ian Ross’ 16th minute strike and never really looked like getting back into the contest.

Heeley said: “I think the game changed in two situations. We had possession but conceded a corner from which we had another deflected goal against us.

“You could just see the belief go and the boys were totally deflated after that.

“At 1-0 we were still in it and, for their second, Matt Birley knows by his own admission he should have cleared the ball. But he’s tried to play it and slipped.”
