ALTHOUGH they may not have too many marquee players in their squad, Worcestershire certainly have the best in-tents for their pre-season preparations.

The County began day one of their pre-season net preparations yesterday, but they have been forced to switch from New Road to Kidderminster to prepare because of the winter flooding that hit Worcester.

Worcestershire have erected a giant marquee over the square at Kidderminster Victoria’s Chester Road home to enable them to play on outdoor wickets rather than practice indoors.

New Road has been subject to four floods in the past three months and the practice nets and square have had to be reseeded.

Worcestershire chief executive David Leatherdale said: “The square and nets were reseeded 10 days ago and the plan, weather permitting, is for the players to return in early April.

“The marquee has been put up at Kidderminster to enable the players to bat and bowl on outdoor wickets rather than indoors.”

Leatherdale remains confident the square will be ready for the start of the season. He said: “It is already looking 10 times better.”
