WORCESTER Wolves head to Cheshire Phoenix tomorrow (5.30pm) looking to continue their fine run on the road.

Wolves have won their last five matches away from the University of Worcester, four in the British Basketball League championship and last Saturday’s Trophy semi-final second leg at Leicester Riders. Although they lost that tie on aggregate, it was the first time the Riders had been beaten on their own court this term.

Cheshire remain in contention for a play-off spot but lost 87-78 at Surrey Heat last Sunday without Jerome Gumbs (illness) and Chez Marks (family bereavement). They were also understrength for the second leg of their BBL Trophy semi-final against Sheffield Sharks, which they lost 102-74 to go down 176-134 on aggregate.

Wolves head coach Paul James is not certain how strong the opponents will be but will treat the game as he does every other.

He said: “I don’t know who is going to show up for Cheshire because I went and scouted them last week against Surrey Heat and they only turned up with six players.

“We have got to prepare for them as if they are going to have everybody there and it’s always tough to go to Cheshire and play.

“We don’t need to do anything fantastic but if we apply ourselves and just keep working hard defensively and execute our offensive sets we should be fine.”

Cheshire coach Matt Lloyd said: “Against Sharks, we gave a creditable performance considering the situation we were in. All of the guys played well. Although we came out with a loss and they knocked us out of the Trophy, we didn’t do ourselves any harm.”
