WORCESTER City could have two new faces in their team for today’s trip to Vauxhall Motors (3pm).
Manager Carl Heeley has been in talks with a number of targets this week as he seeks to revive his side’s fortunes following last Saturday’s 5-0 defeat at Halifax.
His hand has been further forced by a spate of injuries which has left the squad depleted for the Blue Square Bet North match.
Mike Symons (ankle), Stuart Whitehead (ankle), Danny Edwards (ankle), Matt Birley (toe) and Jacob Rowe (knee) are all major doubts for the Ellesmere Port clash.
It is also possible that players will have to leave in order to free up funds to bring in new additions.
Heeley said: “We have a number of players available to us that could come in. “We are hopeful of trying to tie up one or two deals before the weekend and we are working on them around the clock.”
City have also been tracking in-form striker Ethan Moore of Hellenic League Premier Division side Cheltenham Saracens, according to their manager Gerry Oldham.
However, the 20-year-old has also been interesting Gloucester City and he could make his debut for the Tigers against Hinckley United today.
Searching for talent in the lower leagues — the Hellenic is three steps below Blue Square Bet North — is nothing new for Worcester.
They plucked striker Michael Taylor from the obscurity of Midland Combination outfit Earlswood Town in the summer of 2011.
He has gone on to become a regular fixture in the City squad and scored eight goals this term.
- Worcester fans are continuing to send in their memories of St George’s Lane ahead of its demolition later this year. To add yours, e-mail sc@worcesternews.co.uk, call 01905-742275 or write to Sports Desk, Worcester News, Hylton Road, Worcester, WR2 5JX.
