JOHN Layton has left his job as Hereford United’s head of youth following a restructuring of the club’s development programme.

The 61-year-old had been in the role since April 2011, but the Bulls are looking to change the way the youth set-up works at Edgar Street.

Community trust manager Jamie Edwards and youth assistant Dan Connor will oversee the youngsters for the remainder of the season.

However, United will be looking to appoint a director of youth to work closely with the scouting and recruitment of players at the club.

Manager Martin Foyle said: “It will be a whole new job specification, with much wider responsibilities including player recruitment and scouting.

“The aim has got to be to improve our player pathway between the youth and first team here at Edgar Street.

“With the way the finances are we need two or three people wearing three or four hats at the moment, that’s the situation we’re in.”

Foyle added: “I’d like to wish John all the best, he’s been a fantastic servant of the club and has picked the youth set-up off its knees.”
