MICHAEL Gash says his goalscoring record in the Blue Square Bet Premier does not guarantee him a place in the Kidderminster Harriers team.

The 26-year-old has joined the Aggborough outfit on loan until the end of the season from Cambridge United, with fellow striker Nathan Blissett heading in the opposite direction for a month.

Gash has 14 goals to his name for the ‘Us’ and his capture, which could become a permanent move in the summer, is seen as a coup by manager Steve Burr, whose side visit title rivals Grimsby today (3pm).

But the player insists being one of the league’s top marksmen counts for nothing and he will have to prove his worth.

He said: “This season I have been scoring regularly and I will try and carry that on for the fans but at the moment I have got to work hard to get in the team. It’s hard to disrupt a winning team. I know that and everyone here knows that so it’s up to me to work hard.

“You want competition because it improves your game but I like to believe in my own ability and hopefully I can prove it in training and in games when I get a chance.”
