WORCESTER Rugby Club’s Under 15 girls made the long trip to the North Dorset club for their first sevens tournament of the season and came away as champions.

Playing in the first of the two groups, Worcester started in dominant fashion running in 10 tries without reply in the first game against Basingstoke.

Exeter Saracens fared little better as the second game was won by seven tries to two, while the final pool game pitched Worcester against a Wellington side that were no match for Worcester’s speed and experience.

The semi-final saw the in-form girls play Old Northamptonians in a more closely-fought game, but ultimately Worcester’s superb tackling and handling saw them win through to the final.

The game to settle the tournament, against Ellingham and Ringwood, saw both sides pressuring the line and defending well for most of the first period.

Three Worcester tries in quick succession at the end first-half knocked the stuffing out of Ellingham and, although they scored a late consolation try, the girls came out comfortable winners to collect the trophy as well as individual medals.

Worcester’s strength in depth across all positions with strong scrummaging and positive, decisive tackling had allowed them to win all five games, score 34 tries, concede only three and all bar on e member of the squad of 11 scored tries.
