WORCESTER City manager Carl Heeley believes his team can take immense credit from their performance against Guiseley.

Despite last Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at St George’s Lane, in which the Yorkshiremen snatched victory in the 87th minute, Heeley heralded his players as magnificent.

Whether they have given themselves too much to do to reach the Blue Square Bet North play-offs remains to be seen.

But, with 12 games to go, Heeley will be hoping his squad remain positive and can produce repeats of those efforts to keep the pressure on their rivals.

“We’ve got 36 points to play for, we need to find some consistency and we need to get a win,” he said.

“All I can do is ask players to carry out the game-plan, know their jobs individually and work as hard as they possibly can and they did all that.

“I think for 89 out of the 90 minutes we matched one of the top two sides in the division.”

City’s task doesn’t get any easier as they head to fifth-placed Halifax on Saturday but they should have a clean bill of health for the trip.

Shabir jarred his knee against Guiseley but was able to complete 68 minutes so is expected to be fit, while central defender Lee Ayres should have recovered from the virus which forced him to miss the match.

Heeley also says he is not looking to add to his squad having seen forward Kyle Patterson return to Nuneaton Town following a three-month loan.
