ARGENTINEAN play-maker Ignacio Mieres insists the best is yet to come from him ahead of his summer Sixways switch.

The 25-year-old fly-half has opted to quit Exeter Chiefs mid-way through a two-year contract in favour of joining Warriors where he hopes to achieve his lofty ambitions.

The mercurial Mieres has this season slipped behind Gareth Steenson in the Sandy Park stand-off stakes, but hopes to rekindle his international ambitions at Sixways.

Mieres played twice for Argentina in the summer against France and Italy and is desperate to add to his tally of six caps for the Pumas.

He said: “It is my dream to play more for my country, it is the highest achievement for any player and I would be delighted to wear the Pumas shirt more.

“The main reason for my move to Worcester is to play. That is my objective, to play as much as I can and to help Warriors progress.

“I want to keep learning and I know I still have a long way to go as a player and much more to develop.

“I am not the finished article yet and I feel I can only get better with age and experience.”

Mieres admits Sixways has always been a daunting place to visit as a Chiefs player given the partizan atmosphere the home fans can whip up and he is looking forward to having that support behind him.

He added: “I remember that all games with Worcester are tough. I remember the fixture last season at Sixways when we scored two late tries to win in the final minutes.

“For most of that game, we were behind and having to fight very hard, you always have to play very well to beat Worcester because of the passion and fight in the players.

“It was such a tough game and we only just got there in the end. The crowd is noisy at Sixways and get behind the team, no team finds it easy and I look forward to having that support.”

Mieres continued: “I know this move will be a big challenge for me.

“I don’t know very many of the Worcester players and haven’t been to the stadium lots of times, just when we play Warriors.

“But what I do know is that it is a big project at Warriors, the coaches have told me about the way forward and that is an exciting thing to be a part of. I am very excited by the new challenge.

“I’m very grateful to Rob Baxter and Exeter Chiefs for the opportunity they gave me over the last few seasons.

“It is a great club with great supporters and very hard-working and talented staff who deserve success.

“My focus is now on the rest of this season. I want to have a strong finish with the Chiefs and a successful end of the season.”
