LEICESTER Tigers loosehead Marcos Ayerza believes Warriors have signed a top player in his countryman Agustin Creevy.

The Argentinean duo have packed down alongside each other in a fearsome Pumas front row on many occasions and the 30-year-old prop expects Creevy to succeed at Sixways.

It was this week announced that 22-cap Creevy, 27, will be joining Warriors from French Top 14 outfit Montpellier in the summer and Leicester’s Ayerza has compared him to England hooker Tom Youngs.

Ayerza said: “I am a big friend of his — I have been playing with him for many years. He will play well with the Worcester pack because he loves that tight sort of game.

“He will only get better too because he has not had many years as a hooker after playing flanker all his life. It’s only since 2009 I think that they have moved him to hooker. It is a bit like the story of Tom Youngs, who was moved to hooker and done well.

“Agustin will do well in the Premiership. The English way of training will bring out the best in him. He will hopefully succeed in the Premiership. He is a very good player. He is a very friendly and open guy too.”

Warriors head coach Richard Hill believes the arrival of talented, ball-playing hooker Creevy will help Worcester to further expand their attacking game.

He said: “Agustin is an ex-back row forward — he played there at junior international level — and he has superb running skills and the ability to offload.

“Playing at Montpellier, with their French influence, he knows the style of rugby we are looking at here.”
