A 43-YEAR-old drink driver went through a hedge Worcester magistrates heard. 

Morgan O'Brien, of Lion Hill, Stourport, was banned from the road after appearing at the court on Tuesday, (May 9). 

Eleanor Peart, prosecuting, said on the B4183 Hartlebury Road, Hartlebury, at around 11pm on April 7 this year, police were called to a crash. 

On arrival officers discovered a Renault van had come off the road through a hedgerow, and come to a stop with O'Brien in the driver's seat.

After failing a roadside breathalyser test O'Brien was taken to the police station where he gave an evidential sample of 79mcg in 100ml of breath - the legal limit being 35mcg. 

Miss Peart added: "You may feel the offence was aggravated by the collision."

O'Brien was asked by the court clerk if there was anything he wanted to say.

"There is no excuse for it to be honest," O'Brien replied. 

Sentencing him, chairman of the bench Harris Marcou told O'Brien he would be disqualified from driving for 19 months.

O'Brien was told he could take the drink-drive awareness course which, if he successfully completes, will reduce the ban by 19 weeks. 

O'Brien was fined £120, reduced from £180 for his early guilty plea. 

The defendant was also told to pay £135 costs and £48 victim surcharge, making a total of £303 O'Brien owes the courts.
