A CHARITY that aims to reduce waste and promote the creative re-use of materials has received a prestigious award.
Worcestershire Resource Exchange, which is part of the Duckworth Worcestershire Trust, has been recognised with a Queen's Award for Voluntary Service by Deputy Lord-Lieutenant Andrew Duncan.
The accolade is given to groups which provide an exceptional benefit to the local community through the work of volunteers.
Kate Brookes, manager, said: "We are very excited to have received this important award.
"Our volunteers are all very chuffed that their hard work has been recognised."
Worcestershire Resource Exchange's staff and volunteers collect unwanted by-products and materials from local businesses and make them accessible to customers at its 'scrapstore'.
Volunteers help to process and sell the diverse range of materials such as plastic, wood, paper, art supplies and fabrics to schools, community groups and individuals throughout the county.
Kate Brookes and volunteer Maria Baldwin were invited to a garden party at Buckingham Palace as part of the award while on Friday, September 18, the group was presented with a certificate signed by the Queen and a domed glass crystal, which were accepted by long-serving volunteer Richard Walker.
