AN annual ball organised by influential people in Worcestershire has raised thousands for county charities.

Worcestershire Ambassadors, an organisations made up of volunteers who are successful business owners and directors or representatives of the arts, sports and media, raised more than £55,000 at the ball that took place on October 6.

Firmly established as a highlight of the Worcestershire business community’s social calendar, this year’s cabaret themed ball took place at Tree Tops, within the West Midlands Safari Park near Bewdley and was attended by 380 guests, mainly ambassadors and local businesses.

Of the impressive amount raised, £20,000 has been donated to St Richard’s Hospice for their Worcester Stands Tall campaign in which Worcestershire Ambassadors are a presenting partner.

County prostate cancer charities have also benefitted.

The ball fundraising takes donations by the Worcestershire Ambassadors to charities and other community projects to more than £100,000 in 2017 alone.

Chairman Vince Hopkins said: “Raising over £55,000 is a fantastic sum however what is also very pleasing is the great feedback about the event itself.

"I always and quite rightly highlight Judy Owen and Tracey Hopkins as the main organisers and once again they delivered a magnificent show.”

Before the partying got fully underway, an emotional tribute was paid by the chairman to Derek Fradgley who passed away in July, and who was due to take over as chairman in 2018.

All the guests stood for one minute of applause in celebration of the life of Mr Fradgley and in recognition of his huge contribution to the Worcestershire community.

Plans for the 2018 ball are well underway with sponsors signed up, and most tables already sold.
