THE Police and Crime Commissioners of both Warwickshire and West Mercia are calling for people to apply to be members of their joint audit committee.
Bill Longmore, of West Mercia, and Ron Ball, his counterpart in Warwickshire, have called for members of the public with experience of finance, audit, risk management and governance to apply to join the committee and serve both police forces.
The audit committee is a legal requirement and plays a vital role in ensuring that public money is spent wisely and that proper controls are in place.
The joint committee of Warwickshire and West Mercia will help to oversee effective policing in Warwickshire, Shropshire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Telford.
Six people are required to fulfil the roles - five members plus a chair. Members will be required to commit four or five days a year while the chair will need to commit six, for which they will receive an appropriate allowance. They will be asked to provide searching and supportive scrutiny of the police forces and the police and crime commissioner offices.
Mr Longmore said: “Ron Ball and I, as well as the two Chief Constables of our respective police forces, look forward to working with the new audit committee which has a very important role to play in our organisations. I urge people with the experience and knowledge needed to apply without delay.”
