SIR – I woke up on Sunday morning and was listening to BBC 4 and there was a news item about the number of children dying of starvation in East Africa.
I then opened my door, looked outside and saw a large box of breakfast cereal in my porch.
A little perplexed, I wondered where and why.
Then I looked at my neighbour’s front door and saw they also had been given a large box of breakfast cereal as some sort of promotion.
Ombersley Road is not renowned for its high poverty or starvation rates.
So why, when there are so many hungry people, am I given food?
I would have respected the company if someone had left a note saying they had a new product that they hoped I would try and that they had made a donation to a charity for hungry people instead of giving us even more of what we can afford anyway.
