SIR – When I fetch my Worcester News and other shopping from Barbourne, Worcester, every week day, I see the council pavement cleaner going about his business.
I cannot get him to speak; in fact I’ve only seen him converse with one person, another council employee.
He does, however, do his job exceptionally well and misses very little.
In fact he removes litter etc from gutters and roads as well if it is safe.
When things like street lighting columns come his way, I’ve seen him sweep round the column base, bringing out any rubbish before transferring it by shovel to his cart.
After Barbourne he wends his way down St George’s Lane North, disappearing down various side streets and when I visit Sansome Walk baths every Wednesday and Friday I usually meet him at 2pm in that area and I get the impression he still has more to do.
He is a credit to all city manual workers, who may otherwise be taken for granted.
