SIR – “Bruiser”, John Phillpott? (Worcester News, May 28).
Me, a gentle and peaceloving kind of bloke?
I do, however, have a powerful contempt for sloppiness of intellect and laziness of journalism.
All the factual statistical evidence, for those who actually bother to look for it, points, as no less than the Governor of the Bank of England has stated, to the clear fact that, by global and historical standards, the UK economy was doing very reasonably until the bankers’ casino collapsed in the USA the UK and just about elsewhere else.
John, it’s no good just making assertions without evidential back-up.
Please, next time, justify – with proper evidence – “feather-bedded public sector”; and also acknowledge that your economically-illiterate point about pension schemes has nothing whatsoever to do with our present difficulties.
You admitted to “complete bias”, but this cannot exempt you from paying just a little attention to hard evidence.
DAVID BARLOW
