SIR – As the EU thrashes around in its death throes, what steps will be taken against those who in 1972/73 deliberately mis-sold us the concept of joining the Common Market.

At the time this was portrayed simply as a trading relationship, yet after January 1973, illegally and at breakneck speed, Tory and Labour governments set about integrating us in that organisation called the EU.

The press and media have since then been encouraged to maintain a low level of real information on our loss of sovereignty and the crippling level of payments that we had been secretly committed to.

This multi-billion pound rip-off of the British taxpayer is to an organisation whose ruling executive is unelected and which has produced no signed off audited accounts for 16 years.

This has cost our nation the status it once proudly held in the world through virtue of individual and national endeavour and tireless pursuit of social justice and fairplay.

The financial cost is incalculable and our Lab/Con one- party system would go to any ends to avoid revealing it.

Today, weak Westminster slavishly continues to implement every ridiculous directive that Brussels sends to it.

The Tower of London will not be large enough to incarcerate all of the guilty.
