SIR – After reading about a damning independent report into standards of care for the elderly at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch (Worcester News, May 26) it seems as if nothing has changed since my stay in Worcestershire Royal Hospital three years ago.

After my experience I wrote to Mr [John] Rostill [chief executive of Worcestershire Acute Hospital Trust] to complain about my nursing treatment and the cleanliness of the ward.

I had nothing but praise for the medical treatment but the rest of my stay was a nightmare and at one stage my husband was trying to get a private nurse to look after me.

I was left lying in soiled bed clothes and the room wasn’t adequately cleaned.

I had to struggle to clean myself and I left hospital with bedsores.

Last year I had to seek help to deal with the trauma of my stay.

Mr Rostill did look into the issues I raised but not to my satisfaction or to give me any sense of closure.
