SIR – I hope that 'Cleaning up our city’s streets’ (Worcester News, May 23) will not be used as an excuse to harass our homeless people.
More police on the streets are a welcome sight if they give all their time to preventing and investigating real crime.
There is bullying and robbery of homeless people, some of it by other ‘street people’, which should be stopped, as well as the crime and disorder caused by drink and drugs.
Our street musicians and the other homeless people deserve our respect and practical help.
They should not be persecuted for begging or for making the city look untidy.
