Sir – Since Mrs [Clare] Maclean became the headteacher of the new Tudor Grange in Worcester there has been a noticeable improvement in the standards of education and behaviour compared with the previous school on the site.
However as nine of the staff have been sacked for incompetence since 2009 (Worcester News, May 28) it makes me wonder if there is a hidden reason for this.
I understand, too, that there is an entrance exam in operation or planned.
As standards seem to be all we hear about today, what happens to those who fail?
Surely they should come into the equation?
Why can’t they be catered for in a slow-learner class as was the case in 1946-49 at a school in Surrey which I attended?
Those children at least were given a fair chance.
We seem to be obsessed with standards today.
I feel that real service should be for all and not just for the elite.
