SIR – Worcester has too many taxis – fact.

We have designated taxi ranks and that should be enough.

Apparently it’s not because Worcester City Council, in its wisdom, has decided to provide even more ranks.

How do they do this? By giving them our disabled spaces.

Shouldn’t someone look at why we have suddenly been invaded by so many taxis?

They sit for ages with their engines running and polluting the air (and this when the council is trying to cut down on traffic and emissions – they need to look at taxis).

The other day I counted more than 12 parked on the Cross and St Swithin’s Street, all sitting with engines running.

I appreciate that at night they get more use, so why not leave the disabled parking for the day time, say from 9am to 6.30pm, and then let the taxis park in the bays from 6.30pm to 8.30am.

That way everyone gets a fair chance.

The point of disabled parking is for people that are unable to walk great distances.

For some, being able to park in the car parks is just not viable.

The disabled parking bays make their lives so much easier. They are able to visit town, have a wander round the shops and go for a spot of lunch, all without getting too tired.

Many of the mature generation are keeping the city alive during the day.
