SIR – Carl Mason said “I don’t think being a parish counillor you need to show your party colours” (Worcester News, May 19), which, coming from a BNP member, is hilarious on more levels than one.
The fact that Mr Mason only failed to get elected on a technicality, however, isn’t funny. Not at all.
The BNP is a racist party. It’s objective is clearly defined and its methods well-honed to promote intolerance and by so doing to undermine community cohesion, made easier to achieve in this current economic climate.
The real danger here is in the rest of us becoming so disengaged in the political process that a BNP member can simply take a parish council seat unopposed.
Councillor [Andy] Roberts said “worthy candidates” should be encouraged to step up to the mark (Worcester News, May 19).
Meanwhile, the rest of us should be more vigilant.
