SIR – What can I say about our nation of animal lovers?

In response to your story ‘Huge search launched for missing Spencer’ (May 11), Maggie Would wrote on the Worcester News website: “A huge search?

For a dog? It’s just a dog, for heaven’s sake.”

Well, you make my blood boil. When you’ve had a dog then you would understand. How dare you.

We have just lost (passed away) our lovely Westie, aged 16, and the grief is unbelievable.

I have had breast cancer and lost my lovely mum with cancer and the grief is almost the same, believe me, and I know other people who have experienced this.

People like you really make me angry.

Yes it’s a dog and it’s an animal but they become part of you, if you look after them right.

They can’t speak up for themselves when they are ill, or being mistreated etc.

Yes, we do search for people when they go missing but they have a voice most of them, dogs can’t phone home or whatever.

We have grown children/grandchildren, but we also had our life with our dog. That’s now missing from our lives.

I am so pleased that Spencer was found and my message to his new family is: please take care of him and love him.
