SIR – I would like to say a personal thank you to each and every person who supported the opening of the Pershore Commemorative Garden on Sunday, May 8.
After months of organising and agonising, it was a wonderful day enhanced by the hundreds who attended.
The garden is more beautiful and serene than I ever thought possible and I’m touched by the number of people who have taken their time to visit it and the many compliments that we at the Royal Naval Association have received for producing it.
It was at a funeral of one of our members a couple of weeks ago that I realised just how perfect the location is as a commemoration to all who have served in our Armed Services.
We didn’t expect my dad to survive pneumonia in January and I thank God for both sparing him and granting an improvement in his health to watch his dream came to life.
It was his initial idea and for many years he motivated us all to fundraise and keep going despite all the setbacks and his failing health.
Thank you everyone.
TRUDY BURGE
Honorary secretary, Pershore and District Royal Naval Association
