SIR – It appears that Mr [Alex] Salmond has once again put on his blue facepaint and unsheathed his claymore.

If he is to get his way and Scotland uses the exclusive option to leave the Union, who is to negotiate the divorce?

The British Government has gifted the English county of Monmouthshire to Wales, 30 per cent of English North Sea assets to Scotland, allocated £50 billion to Northern Ireland for the sole purpose of buying them a government, sent jobs, contracts and most of the public services to any place in the UK except England and supported the grossly unfair Barnett formula.

The thought of these anti-English people negotiating the terms of settlement with Scottish nationalists fills me with dread. Only an English parliament is qualified to enter such negotiation and that should not include even one of the crowd currently in Westminster.
