SIR – Many westerners saw the deaths of the London bombers and Osama bin Laden as an appropriate end for murderous assassins who gloried in taking the lives of so-called infidels.

But surely they were themselves victims of a religious faith which promotes the bizarre idea that dying for a religious cause is a passport to paradise?

Isn’t it about time we banned the active promotion of anti-social superstitions and their role in the education of young people?

We all know why Ulster remains a hotbed of intolerance despite all the recent attempts to bring people together.

The truth is that we allow religious sects to educate children and keep them apart from children of other sects.

Let’s educate children to make up their own minds about what they believe and to tolerate those who hold views that are different from their own.

Our ancestors fought and died to bring an end to political and religious fascism so let’s not let it back into Britain in the name of education and sectarianism.
