SIR - I read with interest the report by Chris Moncrieff (At Westminster, Saturday, July 15), berating `MPs of all parties' for rushing through the flawed Extradition Bill with the United States which is manifestly unfair to British citizens.

If Mr Moncrieff had been at Westminster on July 12, he would be aware that Liberal Democrat shadow home secretary, Nick Clegg MP, had won over the votes of 246 MPs of all parties to scrap the lop-sided Extradition Treaty, with only four Labour MPs voting in support of the Government. Liberal Democrat MPs have objected to the extradition arrangements with the USA ever since the text of the treaty was published in May 2003.

Mr Clegg pointed out that Parliament should have debated the treaty years ago, but did not have the chance, thanks to the Government's continued disregard for the opinions of the House.

This is not the end of the battle. The current problems of the Nat West Three are only the tip of the iceberg. Many other extradition cases are in the pipeline and will be decided under this unfair treaty unless the Government acts now.

Thanks to this Liberal Democrat initiative, the House of Commons has signalled its clear condemnation of the Extradition Treaty, but the Government can still ignore the opinions of the House as before.

I would urge everyone who is concerned by this to write to the Solicitor General at the House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA asking him to support Nick Clegg's Extradition (United States of America) Bill that would bring to an end to these unfair extradition procedures.

MARGARET ROWLEY,
