SIR – Once again the people of Pershore and District have been more than generous in their support of the annual Poppy Appeal.
This year they have donated about £13,000, which is a tremendous achievement given the current economic climate.
The Royal British Legion currently spends more than £1million a week in its work helping over 140,000 members of the Armed Forces family – 10,000 of whom are service personnel and their families and include recent veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. It is gratifying to know that the significance of the poppy has not diminished or been forgotten.
